Good day! Fancy seeing you here!

You know, an estimated 91% of websites have never been visited by any human besides their creators, which means your presence here alone already makes this site forever one of the 9%.

Regardless of how true (or outdated) the statistic is, all I want to say is that, thank you for being here!

Brief Introduction

I guess I should give a bit of self introduction. My name is Josh. I grew up in Hong Kong and later moved to the US for studies, and am now living in New York City.

I am a programmer, my main interest is to create fun things, whether it’s simple games or desktop applications, small gadgets or firmware for meaningless tools.

As a result of my interest in embedded stuff, I have also developed some skills in CAD and 3D printing, although I still have a long way to go.

Interests

Outside of that, I also play music. In fact, I have been playing the piano for almost 20 years. I was also in a band in high school as the bassist. Sometimes, I also like to create music, although I am still very much an amateur. Between that and programming, I like to refer to myself as a "keyboardist".

Gaming is another hobby of mine, especially metroidvania and shmup type games (specifically bullet hell). Mainstream ones like Hollow Knight, Ori, Touhou, of course, but I also enjoy many of the older retro titles, and many newer homebrew ones as well.

Site History

This site is mostly a journal where I write down the occasional thoughts that probably should have stayed in my head. Instead of letting them disappear, I am putting them here.

This site was originally hosted on Blogger, later migrated to a self hosted Mastodon instance, and now it is generated using Hugo.

Went to manhattan yesterday to get something done and I still had plenty of time left, so I decided to go to the Whitney Museum because why not. I have to say, I am not really a modern art person, so I wasn’t sure what I was looking at. I mean, it was pretty cool, that’s for sure. I stayed there for about 3 hours, then left and bought a hot dog.

I thought I should find somewhere to sit to finish my hot dog, so I went up the bridge and only then realized it was THE High Line. I walked all the way to the end and, lo and behold, ended up at Hudson Yards, which reminded me of a youtube video about the diagonal elevator, so I checked that out as well.

What a day.

Went to the Brooklyn Public Library today. Also went to Smith–9th Streets station to see the highest subway station in the entire American continent (87.5 feet above street level).

Bug bounty is literally a win-win-win program. The company wins because they can fix a bug that could cost them much more than the bounty. The security researchers win because they get paid. The customers win because they now have a less vulnerable system. How stupid must microsoft be to try to destroy their relationship with the researchers. I just don’t understand.

Well, not looking good for the gabe cube and the frame… I am just glad I bought mine years ago.

Also, even nintendo announced theirs 4 months ahead with only a $50 increase. Why the hell did valve just drop the news out of nowhere and almost 50% increase? You can be sure the price is never going to go down.

Trillion of dollars in investment, only for google to give me a shitty hallucinated answer.

That’s why I hate this type of menu. It’s frustrating to use every time.
